“...And since writing is an author’s deepest self, writing about one’s ‘I’, standing up for it, can feel like an aggressive act.” • • “Sometimes on my walk home, in the short space between the rest of the world and my front door, sometimes I will have a moment to dream and to reflect, and to speculate on what the essays will look like, read like.” • • I write a lot in my head, it’s a bad habit, I think. Might even be a lazy one and often, just before I get to the front door after a (long) day I stand there and breathe a little. Sometimes I’m lucky and I catch the sunset or a new anthurium sprouting in one of the pots by the door. Most days, it’s late and I’m lucky enough to have a cloudless night to marvel at the stars and write something in my head about my day. Perhaps a personal stream of consciousness in my head, not in writing: “a private library of a life lived”.

When I started wearing lipstick, I only wore red lipstick and would never leave the house unless I was in lipstick. Who knew I’d ever warm up to lip gloss as a look? • • Anyway I’m loving this @esteelauder‘s Quiet Riot post my Ruby Woo obsession 😀

I know it’s a hard thing to do for a lot of us (myself included) and in my mind I thought it was a very linear thing- saying how you felt, not always being the poster child of ‘I’m okay’, asking for help... those kind of things. I mean that’s part of it, the hard part too, but I’m learning it also means letting people in enough to let them be kind to you. A lot of the times we hear/ see the kindness but don’t listen or let it sink. Letting kindness be reassuring and not something to merely rush past has been a big part of my unlearning recently. So I’m being more intentional with sitting not only in the kindness I give but also, and more importantly, in that I receive. It’s progress to let people in, to let them be kind to you. Their kindness will heal you from things they don’t know about, things you’re struggling with. I’m so grateful for the people healing me in small ways, small parts, unknowingly, with their kindness. • • Be one of them. Let someone else be that person for you too 🌞 (probs my current fav emoji at the moment so expect to see it & a sub too)

I belong to moments- the warmth of the sun on my skin in my little Yugoslavia before it starts to burn and turn red, the taste of a sweet- sour sorbet on a chill weekday when I’m drowning in deadlines, coffee for the sake of coffee, blasting Malena Zavala (🌞) in my ears to find peace. Cute polka dot dresses, wearing pearls and sheer pantyhose like the 50year old woman I am within, drinking more tea than most people I know. These are a few of my favorite things, my moments 😊
